Yes. Kingston requires that all structures be permitted. One of the main reasons for this is that the Building Inspector is expected to ensure that the mandatory set-backs are met, but he also must make sure that all structures are safe and that, if they are taxable, the town has a record of them. Unpermitted structures may have to be removed if they fail to meet setbacks or if the Building Inspector determines that they were not built according to code. Building or locating of structures without a permit is considered to be a violation, subject to enforcement by the Board of Selectmen.

Yes. A demolition permit is required prior to removal of any structure. Additionally, if there is asbestos or lead in that structure, those components will need to be abated. An environmental report will need to be submitted to the town's Health Officer a minimum of 10 days prior to demolition. There are several local companies that provide such reports. The application is available on our website.

Yes, in most cases, a set of building plans will be required. If the project proposed is for the placement of a pre-fabricated shed or garage, it may be possible to let the Inspector know from where the building is being purchased, but for most new construction, building plans will be necessary to demostrate that the project will meet code and to aid the process of inspections. To be certain of what will be required, contact the Inspector directly.

For Plumbing inspections contact Dave Field 603-793-5440, once the plumbing inspector confirm a date, schedule such confirmation date on the online permitting portal with comments "Confirmed by Dave Fields inspection to be performed on xx/xx/xx" 

For electrical inspections contact Tom Soterakoplous 603-793-5252 once the electrical inspector confirm a date, schedule such confirmation date on the online permitting portal with comments "Confirmed by Tom inspection to be performed on on xx/xx/xx" 

For the health inspector call 603-642-3342 x 106 and for Highway contact the Highway department. All other inspections shall be scheduled using the online permitting portal.
